What is transfer case?

A transfer case is a component in the drivetrain of four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles. It is responsible for transferring power (torque) from the transmission to both the front and rear axles. This allows for all four wheels to receive power simultaneously, allowing for improved traction and control in off-road and low-grip situations. Transfer cases can be either manual or electronic, and can have several different modes of operation depending on the vehicle and its intended use. Some common modes include two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive high, and four-wheel drive low. Transfer cases are typically located beneath the vehicle, and are connected to the transmission via a driveshaft. They can require regular maintenance, such as fluid changes, and may require repair or replacement if damaged.
